Slots are Bigger
Deal than Expected
The Mashpee Wampanoag tribe has exceeded what many
were expecting in their plans for a proposed casino in Middleboro.
The slots floor alone is larger than those in both of the casinos in
Connecticut, and they are considered to be among the world’s largest
casinos. The floor is ultimately a third larger than both of theirs.
The tribe has filed their plan with the U.S. Department of the
Interior who has the final say, but many feel that they will approve
it as is. The complex will ultimately hold a 10,000 seat auditorium,
180 table games and 4,000 slots. However, the size of the floor
being taken into consideration, experts say that they could easily
hold 8,000 slots instead.
Experts say that with a gaming floor that large, the tribe is
obviously looking to expand the number of slots that they offer at
some point down the line. With Foxwoods having 7,200 slots and plans
to expand to 8,700 and Mohegan Sun having 6,200 slots and planning
on expanding to 7,600 – there is no doubt that the tribe is planning
an expansion of their own.
The tribe is basing their numbers on the idea that there is still
$1.5 billion in gambling money out there that is for the taking, and
that there is still a large demand for more slots. Mohegan Sun
developers are working with the tribe to come up with the
development plan, and they and the tribe are pleased with what they
have come up with. Now they just need the governor to legalize slots
and they can get started building.
