Concerns Over New UK
Gambling Law
With the new UK Gambling Act that has just come
into play, many online slots dealers and online casinos are choosing
to stay away from the country, and are instead registering
elsewhere. There was thought that the new laws would be online slots
and online casino friendly, but many operators find them to be the
opposite. Meanwhile, residents are unhappy with the stance that the
government has taken on the B&M casinos as well.
Residents think that being allowed to advertise on the TV and radio
is uncalled for, and say that they are going to increase the number
of people that are currently addicted to gambling. The Salvation
Army says that the changes in the law could “normalize” an already
addictive activity, and GamCare says that even though the new ads
will have the web site address for help – they should have had to
include their phone number as well.
They also say that the controls that should keep children protected
from participating in online slots or gambling are not strict
enough, and that they will not help to keep them from doing so.
Sports Minister Gerry Sutcliffe disagrees, saying that there were
not “unprecedented powers” of control in place to protect them.
They argue that not only are all online slots, gambling and gaming
operators now required to show proof that they can keep children
from gambling before they can get a license, but more than 6,000
slots will be removed from places where children would be able to
play them unsupervised.
