NGC Considering
Gaming Concept
The Nevada Gaming Commission is considering
allowing ATM type machines to link to the slots so that people can
more easily get credits at the machines. Players would be allowed to
use debit cards to access their funds and provide them with vouchers
that they can use in the slots and other electronic gaming devices.
The devices are called EDITH – Electronic Debit Interactive Terminal
Housing, and although they sound convenient they would also be doing
something that the Nevada Gaming Commission has never allowed before
– they would basically link ATMs directly to the slots. The
commission has always been hesitant about allowing this kind of
access as it would give people the ability to continue playing until
all of the money in their bank accounts was gone.
Global Cash Access and International Game Technology have teamed up
to create the new machines, and they are hoping for approval from
the commission. Experts say that the commission may approve them as
a concept, which means they would not actually go on the floors,
they would be openly considering them. Once the commission decides
they like them, they would be licensed, and then put on the floors
as a trial only.
With people getting more used to using their ATMs to pay for
everything, including slots, it is not that unrealistic to think
that these might not be a huge hit. However, the Gaming Commission
currently thinks that they are a little too close to linking the
ATMs to the slots, even though it would only be a voucher that they
were getting.
