Public Hearing to Discuss Slots

Many people are upset about the distinction between “skill based” machines and slot machines. Some say that they are slot machines no matter what you call them; others say that since there is skill to them they cannot be lumped together. As the debate wagers on, many people showed up at a local hearing to discuss the fate of the slots.

Seven people stood and spoke at the hearing, and although it was originally scheduled for two hours, it only lasted around a half of an hour because there weren’t enough people to speak on the topic. The hearing was held at the Stark County Office Building, and only about 25 people even showed up.

The Attorney General’s Office is sponsoring these hearings across the state so that they can find out how people feel about the slots. They are attempting to ban the slots so they want to know how people will be affected by them, and if this is the right move for the state and its residents. If the law is passed that they are considering, slots would be banned completely, and electronic games that offer a prize worth more than $10 would be illegal as well.

Those that run the slots type games say that the law needs to be clearer so that people know what is legal and what isn’t. One gentleman stood up and said that the way the law reads now, video arcade games such as Golden Tee would be illegal as well and as they are most definitely not slots, the law would need to be reworked before he would approve of it.
