College Students Love Casinos

There might be a minimum gambling age of 21, however, most states say that this does not deter college and high school students from trying to get into the casinos anyway. The Connecticut Council on Problem Gambling says that they have a steady stream of under age gamblers attempting to get into the casinos.

However, some states are not only catering to the younger members of our nation, but are encouraging them to gamble. Recently Rhode Island went after college students telling them to take a break from studying and gamble a little. Some states are trying to take a pre-emptive strike on those with problems such as Missouri who changed their health forms to include gambling addiction concerns.

With Massachusetts trying to decide whether or not to add three slots and gambling casinos to their state, many are warning that they are simply making the way for more addicts to be created from their college students. With a propensity to gambling, they are of the age when they are most susceptible to the addiction.

College professionals say that in adding more slots and gambling that they are not able to hand the addiction that will ultimately come from it. One of the casinos is driving distance from many of the state’s more than 100 college campus, and if Boston or Revere brings in slots, Harvard, Boston College, etc. students could simply grab the MBTA’s Blue Line to get there.
