Holland Casino
Worried About Taxes
Dutch state companies are discussing a possibility
of increasing the tax on online slots, which has some very concerned
as to what this will mean for them. They already hold a monopoly on
gambling in the Netherlands, but by adding a land casino tax Holland
Casino could be looking at how much this might affect them.
The proposal calls for a dramatic increase in the amount of tax on
the online slots, and Holland Casino is concerned what they might be
looking at especially since they are currently facing a re-launch
with Cryptologic software soon and this could impact that launch.
Holland Casino is currently the only casino allowed to operate in
the Netherlands, and if the tax goes through it could change their
future dramatically.
The Dutch cabinet is talking about converting the 16% value added
tax on slots into a gaming tax of 40.85%. Holland Casino says that
this could determine whether or not they continue on as with a tax
that high having the online slots may not be prosperous for them any
longer.
Parliament has to approve the tax before it can be passed, but
Holland Casino is already making their viewpoint known. They
expressed publicly the fact that they may not be able to stay in
business with a tax that high. They are hoping that Parliament will
see that the amount is just too much for them to be expected to pay.
As they are currently being upgraded with a deal that they have with
Cryptologic they are assuredly worried that the time and money being
spent on the new casino may not be worth it if they end up not being
able to offer their online slots selections to their customers. With
the tax, the online casino site will presumably have to close down.
