Eash Loses Slots
Dispute
The Imperial Palace has won the lawsuit brought
against them by a Biloxi woman who claimed she won $1 million on a
slots jackpot that only paid $8,000. The courts have ruled that the
slots amount of win was in error, and thereby the casino does not
owe her the additional money.
It all started when Florida Eash was playing the $5 Double Top
Dollar slots game and hit the jackpot. The jackpot said that she had
won $1 million, but the slots technicians informed her that she had
not. The casino offered her the maximum payout of $8,000 but she
decline saying that she wanted the full $1 million.
She took her case to the Mississippi Gaming Commission, who sided
with Eash and said that the casino needed to pay her the $1 million
because it was not technically a computer glitch. If in case of a
glitch, the jackpot is null and void, as is stated on every game.
However, in this case an International Game Technology technician
programmed the game incorrectly, which is why it was showing the
jackpot that it was.
However, Circuit Judge Roger Clark overturned that decision stating
that the casino did not owe her the money because when Eash sat down
at the casino it clearly stated that it paid out a maximum of
$8,000. Clark said that she could not expect to win more than what
was posted.
Clark said that he felt that the commission had based their decision
on fairness, but “ignored its own precedent.” Eash must now decide
if she will keep the $8,000 or continue to the Mississippi Supreme
Court to appeal the ruling. The casino said that they thought that
the court was simply correcting what had been an incorrect decision
by the Gaming Commission.
