Windsor Gets Nice
Paycheck
The City of Windsor has just gotten a nice
paycheck for their hosting of slots in their city. The Ontario
Lottery and Gaming Corporation has given them their cut of the
profits from the slots that they allow to be hosted at the Windsor
Raceway – and it has turned out to be a nice chunk of change.
The city received a check for $419,000 from the OLG, and according
to the Corporation the city is free to spend the money however they
choose. Windsor has already received more than $21.3 million to date
in non-tax gaming revenue per the OLG’s books.
They say that they give the municipalities 5% of the gross revenue
from the first 450 slots that are located at the gaming facility
located at the racetrack in the municipality. They then get another
2% of the gross revenue from any additional slot machines that they
bring in.
This latest payment to the municipality was part of the amount that
is distributed to the 23 municipalities on a quarterly basis. This
third quarter payment was based on $17.9 million in revenue. The OLG
has said that they are planning on allocating an additional $105
million in gaming revenue to various charities through the Ontario
Trillium Foundation.
