No More Slots for
Troops
Months ago we reported that the number of slots
games addicts that were developing in our men and women overseas had
gotten out of control. That the slots are their form of recreation
over there and that the funds from those machines went to funding
soldier’s recreation and entertainment while they were fighting for
our country.
We said that we thought that our troops did more than enough for our
country and that the slots should be removed as men and women were
coming home worn torn and addicted to slots. Once over here, our
government took a hands-off approach and left their spouses and
loved ones to deal with the aftermath of the turmoil that these
slots were causing.
However, one man is finally looking to do something about the slots
addiction that has been developing. Rep. Lincoln Davis, a Democrat
out of Tennessee, has filed a bill that would remove all slots from
military bases overseas. He says that "If American men and women are
willing to serve our country overseas we should not be dependent on
them to pay for recreational activities they deserve. The risks are
simply too high and too many to ask that of our soldiers."
Davis realized that a bill had to be submitted when he saw a story
on CNN that featured Army Warrant Officer Aaron Walsh’s wife. She
was telling the story about how her husband became addicted to the
slots while he was overseas, and how they led to his being
discharged from his post in the military and eventually his death.
Walsh made numerous attempts to kick the slots habit, but was
unsuccessful. The military refused to assist Walsh with his slots
addiction, and eventually he killed himself.
