Loss Limit Coming to
an End
The long running debate over Missouri’s $500
casino loss limit is coming to an end, or so it seems. The bill that
those have been fighting over will end in 2008 if something doesn’t
happen to extend it instead. Some like the limits, others don’t want
the government telling them what to do with their own funds. It just
depends on what side of the fence you are on.
Last week paperwork was filed by the casinos seeking the law to be
repealed. They say that it sends the high rollers often found in
casinos to other states where they can bet higher amounts. They also
say that it is a violation of a person’s privacy as they shouldn’t
have to tell you how much they spend on the slots or any other game.
The law was originally put in place to keep compulsive gamblers from
ruining their lives, but many say that it hurts those that don’t
have a problem. The Gaming Commission says that there is only about
2% of the gaming population meeting the limits so it should really
be a non issue.
The law restricts players from gambling more than $500 every two
hours, so that they don’t get caught up in the frenzy and end up
doing real harm to their bank accounts. Many say that they like the
law, even though they don’t have a gambling problem. They say that
they like the fact that people are watching out for them and
ensuring that they don’t get themselves into any kind of trouble.
