E
EDGE –
Experienced
gamblers already know that the “edge” is the statistical advantage
assigned to whichever party is more likely to be winning in a
wagering transaction – the player or the house. In terms of slot
machines, the house inevitably has the edge over the individual
player. Don’t let that get you down, though… that’s pretty much the
gambling world in a nutshell. The “edge” is not to be confused with
the payout/payoff percentage, which dictates what percentage of all
slot intakes must be paid back to players in the form of jackpots
and prizes. Some casino slots feature a ninety-eight percent
payback, but don’t let that fool you. It’s true that the casino only
reaps two percent of all slot game wagers, but you are still much
more likely to lose than win on any given spin.
EGM
– This is an abbreviation for “electronic gaming machine,” or a slot
machine. “EGM” is normally used in terms of state and local
legislation regulating gambling as a definition for what gambling
devices are permitted or illegal.
