Vote No on Prop A
It is not the first time
that Guam Greyhound has tried to get slots legalized in the country,
though many are hoping that this latest attempt will be their last.
They say that the voters have already made their opinions clear
about the fact that they do not want slots in their country, and
that Guam Greyhound just is not listening.
The opposition is urging their residents to vote no on Prop A, which
would legalize slots at the track. They say that even though the
track has been trying to make it look like it is a good deal for
residents; once you read the information on the slots proposition
you will see that it is not in the best interests of the voters to
approve it.
They say that Prop B from the last election was the same thing as
this latest attempt and that there is some changing of the wording
but it is still the same beast. Under the various sections of the
proposition, the text has been changed so that they can resubmit the
item to be voted on again. They say that one of the worst parts is
the wording under Section 1002 where it states that “Gross Slot
Income” is the money used to pay out winners.
They say that the wording sounds like players will ultimately get a
large amount of money back from the slots, and this is not the case.
Experts point out that it is not actually “net” income; it is the
amount of money left over after the track has set their amounts for
taxing against the money put into the slots. Opponents say that this
comes out to somewhere around $0.50 for every $100 spent that would
come back.
The claims are that this is just one of many problems that they have
with the new slots proposal, and that there are many other reasons
to vote against it. They are hoping that they people of Guam realize
what the track is up to and won’t allow it.
