As of Beginning of
Year No Online Slots for Germany
According to a Heese government spokesman, Germany
is banning all online slots and gambling as of the first of the
year. They needed at least 16 German states to ratify the accord and
according to the government official they have the “required
majority” to make the deal a done one.
They have been fighting to keep the state’s monopoly on lotteries
and gambling, and by passing a bill that will keep online slots and
gambling illegal, they will be able to do so. They say that they
expect that the rest of the states will fall into place by January
1, 2008.
Now that they have passed the law, the question remains how long
will they fight to keep it. The European Union has been warning them
about their monopoly on online slots and gambling within Germany,
and told them that they had to abide by the rules of the rest of the
EU.
Other countries are complaining that they are not allowing free
trade by blocking the online gambling, but Germany will not relent.
They will allow online slots and gambling as long as you are
gambling with a German company, but no companies outside of Germany
may have access to their residents.
They have set up controls that will keep banks from transferring
money to companies outside of Germany and they will block all ISP’s
that do not conform to the rules. They will also not be allowed to
advertise inside of Germany either, as access will be blocked to the
actual online slots and gambling sites.
