French Casinos See
Decline in Activity
According to the Casinos de France, a professional
online slots and casinos union, the majority of the casinos in
France saw a decline in their revenues for the fiscal year 2006-07.
Roughly 100 casinos showed a decline in their revenue and 30 of them
showed a slight increase. Of those 30, ten of them were brand new
casinos, so it could be attributed to curiosity seekers.
Overall, their GGR increased globally around 2.8%, which comes out
to 2.8 billion euros, not quite what the country was hoping for. The
union says that with the new identity system that is in place in all
of the gambling rooms and slots parlors, they think that this is
acting as a deterrent to many of their customers.
Clients do not like to show their identifications, preferring
instead to remain anonymous when gambling. With the removal of the
stamp duty and the introduction of new poker table games did not do
enough to combat the new identification procedures. Nor did the
addition of brand new slots; they say that people just don’t like
the new procedures.
The removal of entrance fees and the fact that people will
eventually get used to the new identification process will make a
difference – and experts predict that the amount of money that is
made will increase significantly if all goes well. But they say that
they have to continue to offer exciting slots games, etc. so that
people will be interested in sticking with them.
