eBay Allowing Online
Slots in their Name?
As the newest slots on
the block were announced, there was some confusion over the mention
of one of the themes that International Game Technology, or IGT, had
said. At first people thought perhaps they had heard wrong – but it
seems that they didn’t.
It is a fact, eBay has in fact teamed up with the online slots and
gambling giant, IGT, to create a slots game that would have their
name and their branding on it. Some experts wondered what eBay could
possibly have to do with the slots and gambling world, in that they
are not exactly online gambling friendly.
For those of you who have been living under a rock, eBay is the
mastermind behind all of the online selling that now takes place.
The company hooks up owners and their stuff with other people who
want to buy them – better yet bid on them – so that they can own
them. The saying that one man’s trash is another’s treasure could
not have been truer.
The licensing deal is bound to be lucrative for the online sales
giant, but bottom line figures have not been released. CEO Meg
Whitman approved the newest slots game, which many find funny
considering their ties to the online gambling world. In fact, when
eBay purchased PayPal back in 2002 they also banned it for online
casino payment processing. At that point roughly 6% of their revenue
came from online gambling, but still the company chose to stay out
of that world.
