Slot Machines Bring
in Revenue to Maine
With the slot machines running in Maine, a study
has been done to see what effect the slots might be having on the
state in the fifteen months that they have been in business. The
study found that they have brought in more than $20 million to the
area because of the addition of the slot machines.
Local businesses are flourishing, and it is all because of the slot
machines that have come to town. Area restaurants, hotels, motels,
etc. have all felt the newfound income that comes with adding slot
machines to your neck of the woods. They found that from the time
that the slot machines came in patrons spent an additional $14
million at Bangor area restaurants, and another $6 million at their
hotels.
The study went on to explain that this is just how it has performed
in the first fifteen months, and does not take into consideration
what will happen when the slots move from a temporary location to
the permanent one. The permanent one will offer things that the
temporary one does not, and thus local businesses will likely see a
drop in their revenue after they move the slot machines.
The study went on to say that they cannot conclude one way or the
other whether or not slot machines have been good for Bangor, even
though the initial reports are positive. The study says that for
every $1 in slot machine revenue that comes in, $0.29 is made in the
restaurant industry, and $0.12 is made in the hotel industry.
