Meadows Becomes a
Resort
In what is undoubtedly a shrewd move on the part
of the Meadows Racetrack and Casino, they are planning on adding a
resort and spa to their existing structure. They know that in order
to capitalize on the slots market, they have to give people another
reason to come instead of just slots.
They want people to come to spend a night and relax – and play the
slots. The track’s owners have come up with a plan to add a hotel,
spa, harness racing grandstand, and of course a slots parlor. The
slots parlor would hold 3,000 slots, and the casino will add a
non-smoking section.
They found that many of their guests wanted to come and stay for
awhile, relax, play the slots, and then go home the next day or
maybe the day after. By giving them a place to stay they are
answering a need that their clients have expressed a strong interest
in.
The owners of the track, Cannery Casino Resorts, who are Las Vegas
based, have introduced the slots and spa plans to the state Gaming
Control Board during a hearing in Harrisburg. They are waiting to
gain approval before they can move on with their expansion. The
permanent building will combine the slots with harness racing all
under one roof.
They are beginning work on the grandstand in about two weeks, and
racing will be halted while they do so. The gambling board members
think it is a good idea because it will bring in more business to
Western PA. They said that the track is exceeding what they
promised, and that makes them very excited.
