Broken Slots Lead to
Larger Payouts
The Twin River Casino has been paying out twice as
much money as it was supposed to from one of its slots. The machine
was set to pay out double for some reason; no one knows exactly what
happened. However, in the interim, the slots paid out two times what
they should have to every player who played the machine.
The error was found after the slots had been running for two months
– on June 15th. As far as they can tell, somehow the switch on the
slots that made it pay out double was flipped, although no one knows
how it happened or who did it. They are also making sure that no
criminal intent was at play here, as they don’t know how the error
on the slots occurred.
The Rhode Island slots casino paid out $450,115 more than it should
have over the course of the two months. The company that supplied
the slots was Gtech, and they don’t know what happened either. They
have however, reimbursed the state for that money erroneously paid
out. They do not know if they will be able to get back any of that
money from the patrons or not yet, nor do they know why the error
was not discovered at an earlier date.
The doubling feature on the slots allows customers to get double
credit for the money put in up to a max credit of $100 from putting
in $50. The state is going to keep the lions share of the reimbursed
money, with Gtech, Twin River and the town of Lincoln splitting the
rest.
