Bad News is Bad for
Gambling
When you think of Las Vegas, what is the first thing that comes
to mind? Is it the shows? The restaurants? The hotels? Not if you
are the majority of people in this world. Most people associate Las
Vegas with slot machines and gambling. They know that the other
stuff is there, and that is what makes it Las Vegas – but the first
thing they think of is gambling.
However, sometimes that thought process gets a little muddled in the
press and in potential customers’ brains. You get stories of dog
fighting and gambling on dog fights, and although that didn’t happen
in Las Vegas people will immediately connect the two in their minds.
What about the guy gambling on the very games he was officiating?
Again, another negative connotation to gambling, which is really
what city officials do not want to see. What about the betting
scandal involving the illegal non-Nevada bookies and internet sports
books? Same thing, lumped in with Vegas, and one more thing for the
city to worry about. The stories go on and on, and the outlook just
isn’t good for the city.
There was one man who was selling drugs and using the money to play
the slot machines at the casino. How in the world would casino
officials know that this was how he was making his living? Casinos
cannot screen to see where the money is coming from for all of their
customers, and to suggest so is ludicrous, but some think that this
is the way we are headed. People want to think badly of many things
that are fun and exciting, as if it were wrong to be happy. Vegas
just wants their customers to have a good time, and they wouldn’t
mind some good press too while they are at it.
