Vendor Chosen
The Kansas Lottery had to decide between GTECH and
Scientific Games over who would be handling their slot machines, and
have announced that they have chosen GTECH. The lottery said that it
was an extremely difficult decision as both were very qualified, but
in the end it came down to the fact that GTECH had better terms in
pricing and technology.
The company will handle supplying and operating the central gaming
system for the state’s casinos and racetrack slot machines. GTECH,
based out of Rhode Island, is a subsidiary of the Italian company,
Lottomatica S.p.A., but according to Ed Van Petten, Executive
Director of the lottery, that had nothing to do with their decision.
Many were not surprised by the choice, as GTECH has been the
lottery’s online vendor since 1988. Van Petten could not reveal the
terms of the bids as it now has to go to negotiations and approval
by the lottery commission.
With Scientific Games based out of New York, Van Petten said that
both companies have very large presences in the states – and that
really they were the two biggest companies. The other companies that
presented to them an interest were not of the same caliber and
therefore were not seriously considered among the final choice.
