Ross Also Pushing
for Slots
Governor Deval Patrick is not the only one pushing
for slots in the state, it seems that state Rep. Richard Ross is
also pushing for slots of his own. Ross wants slots at the state’s
racetracks, including Plainridge Race Course in Plainville.
Patrick seems to have let his push for the slots wane for now, but
Ross plans on continuing the fight. He spoke on Thursday on the
House Floor asking for support from the House for the slots. He says
that with the new budget coming up later this month he wants them to
consider slots as a way to balance the budget.
The House is considering it, as there is currently a provision in
the order that would ban any amendment to expansion of gambling in
Massachusetts. It would effectively block the addition of any slots
to the state and its tracks.
The House is looking to remove the slots ban, and Ross says that by
adding slots to the state it would be “instant revenue…for the
commonwealth.” He says that the existing structures across the state
would be able to have slots added in “a matter of days.”
