France Wants Online
Slots
According to Aujourd’hui en France, the French
daily newspaper, France is moving closer towards regulation of
online slots and gambling, instead of towards prohibition. They
could even be looking to make it regulated by 2009 – which would be
a huge step for the country.
The newspaper says that “everything is ready” for France to begin
talks for online slots and gambling, as well as betting. It comes at
a time when many were questioning why France would move to make
online slot and gambling illegal when they can see how hard it has
been on the US with their own ban.
President Nicolas Sarkozy is expected to give the final approval
soon for the shift in online slots and gambling – especially since
he has recently shown a more open mind towards competitive gambling
in France. Former MP Bruno Durieux turned in the results of a survey
he completed for the finance department, and Budget Minister Eric
Woerth has spoken with several European Commission officials as
well.
The President is for online slots and gambling, but wants them
controlled. He wants to make sure that the competition is even and
that no one has control over it except for the government.
