SlotsData Maxi Slot Review: Twister
It’s been
almost fourteen years since we saw the freaky movie with Helen Hunt
(what happened to her, anyway?) and the guy who currently plays the
Mormon bigamist on that one HBO show, and we’re still in awe of the
mighty power of the tornado. Inclement weather is nothing with which
to mess around, and there’s something about tornados that seem
especially menacing and terrible to us mere mortals trapped at the
whims of nature’s fury. Maybe it’s something about the nature of
this kind of event: you can run and hide from floods or fires, but
it’s darn tough to get away when the air itself is out to get you!
Twister, the online slot game, is a different look at tornados: a
funny one. Featuring a misfit cast of stereotypical rednecks, this
comical and bright online slot will certainly give you some belly
laughs, even if it doesn’t whip a lapful of dollars at you!
Twister comes to us from Microgaming, which has richly earned its
reputation as the finest creator of online slots in this day and
age. This particular pokey title isn’t what we would call one of the
groundbreaking tour de force titles on which the company has staked
its reputation and good name, but it is certainly emblematic of the
winning Microgaming approach to making great online casino games:
take an interesting theme, don’t skimp on the look and feel of the
game itself, keep the player entertained, and make sure there’s
plenty of cash to be won! Twister follows each one of these rules to
the letter, and thereby manages to be a quite excellent way to
entertain oneself.
Twister boasts five reels and fifteen paylines of online slot
machine gaming action. Coin values start at one cent and range to
fifty cents. Even with the max coins allowance of one hundred fifty
(ten coins per payline allowed at one time), those players who are
minding their bankroll can still really have a good time – and those
who are feeling a bit more flush can spring for the full
seventy-five dollars per spin for the big chance to win a weighty
jackpot! The jackpot in question is fifteen thousand coins. Don’t be
discouraged that it only boils down to seventy-five hundred dollars
on a maxed-out bet. One of the big draws we saw in this game is the
fact that it pays out so often. There is plenty of action spinning
around in this Twister, so you need not fret about the fact that
it’s not exactly a million-dollar blockbuster!
When you start to play Twister the first time, the ominous crack of
thunder in the distance and the sound of wind approaching like a
freight train should warn you that something bad is about to happen
to the cast of yokels depicted in such loving detail on the reels.
There’s a shaggy-coiffed teenager missing his front teeth and
donning a trucker hat, a matron with lurid blue eyeshadow and curly
blonde hair, an old lady with curlers and a cigarette between her
teeth, and a sweet (if simple) looking gentleman with thick glasses
and a stained wife-beater tank top. You’ll also see some of the
objects that are at danger of being swept up by the storm’s fury and
thrown around: a trailer, a gas station, and an outhouse, to name a
few.
The grinning blue twister himself is the wild symbol, and can
supplant any other icon on the reels in a winning combination with
the exception of the scatter symbol. This barometric badass is also
the jackpot. So instead of panicking when you see this particular
storm a’comin’, take heart! He’s probably blowing some awesome cash
your way! The breaking news icon, which is a newspaper, is the
scatter symbol. Get three, four, or five of these special images
anywhere on the reels during one of your turns to win an awesome
prize: twenty free spins! All winnings are doubled during this
round, so you have even more incentive to play hard and rub your
lucky charm! There is also a gamble feature. If you are feeling
bold, take a guess as to whether the next card to be drawn from a
virtual deck is going to be red or black. If you are right, you’ll
double your winnings. If you lose, well, you’ll zero out your
balance. You can keep picking as long as you are right, so intrepid
players with a touch of psychic power can really clean up here!
You might say that we were “blown away” by Twister, but that would
be a terrible pun. Oops, too late!
