More Strategy
Doesn’t Equal Less Fun
Does having a comprehensive strategy for playing
the slots and keeping your bankroll as fat as possible detract from
the fun of playing? It depends on you ask. Such was the subject of a
recent question to John Robison, renowned gambling expert. Robison
specializes in online play, and slots in particular. His syndicated
column runs regularly on several web sites, as well as in many
gambling magazines loved by fans the world over. John is a master of
strategy, and advocates for such tactics as counting naked rolls
(believe us, it’s not as sordid as it counts!) and calculating loss
limits. Recently, a reader of Robison’s wrote in to say that they
probably would not visit a casino with the expert if given the
chance, because they would be afraid that too much strategy would
ruin their fun.
Robison said that he did not think that strategy need necessarily
ruin the fun of playing slot games, whether in casinos or online. He
acknowledged that, at the end of the day, gambling is meant to be
fun and that one needs to understand that they are going to “lose
most of the time [they] play.” He also said that he would never try
to ruin someone’s good time by injecting the moment with dry, dull
statistics and a lecture on strategy.
On the other hand, Robison acknowledged that he can’t bear to see
players squandering their bankrolls on erroneous beliefs (like slots
programmed to pay out more at certain times of the day, or to
certain people), and that he will correct misinformation if and when
he sees it being perpetuated.
