No More Playboy
Casino
Call it yet another sign of the times: the Playboy
online casino has closed its virtual doors. Playboy, the men’s
lifestyle brand associated with the ubiquitous adult magazine, has
failed to keep its online slots and casino gambling venture afloat –
marking the second such fizzle in as many years. Effective on the
29th, the internet site will no longer allow players to log-in, news
that was transmitted to the Playboy Casino and Poker Club’s
playership in an e-mail last Wednesday.
It would seem that online slot machines and casino gambling would be
an ideal fit with Playboy’s target demographic: men aged 18-45.
Apparently, logic is incorrect in this instance. While it is true
that most adult men love the nude ladies associated with the Playboy
brand and online gambling alike, they obviously did not flock to the
concept of a fusion of these two things. Of course, the struggling
U.S. economy undoubtedly played no small role in the fizzling of the
Playboy gambling venture. Also, the brand is hottest in the U.S.,
where citizens are mostly prohibited from engaging in online casino
betting by the UIGEA.
The newest version of the Playboy Casino was run by Cryptologic, one
of the premiere online casino software providers in the world.
Cryptologic had a rough year last year, and the demise of the
Playboy Casino was not its only stumble. In the third quarter alone,
revenues fell by five million dollars. All hope is not lost, however
– Cryptologic optimistically released a tranche of new games
recently, including a rework of its much-beloved Spiderman title.
