Of Naked Pulls and
Loss Limits (2 of 2)
The way that wise slots players determine this is
based on the concept of limiting one’s “naked pulls,” or losing
spins. Statistics tell us that, if we keep playing the slots, we are
bound to win eventually. There is no guarantee, however, that it
will be on the machine we are playing. Therefore, when playing
either the online slots or the terminal games at your favorite
casino, you need to pick a certain number of losses at which you
will get up and leave the game – no questions, no reservations. If
you have not gotten a return over a set number of plays, you must
assume that the game is a cold one.
Experts suggest that you select a number between seven and fourteen.
You will need at least seven spins to get a feel for your luck on
any given machine, but you must not allow your plays to climb too
high into the teens before cutting your losses. Pick this number
before you sit down and start playing. Write it down on a slip of
paper and have a friend hold it, if you must. It’s a contract with
yourself. You shouldn’t click or pull that slot game even ONCE
beyond the limit you have pre-established – that way, you minimize
the amount of money you are losing on a cold title.
You also need to keep your loss limits in mind. Let’s say that your
naked pulls limit is eleven. Maybe you win a small amount after
eight spins, and then after nine, and then lose seven times in a
row. Sure, you haven’t broken your “deal,” but you aren’t making
money, either! You need to set a loss limit – sixty percent is a
good one – as a backup to safeguard your bankroll. At the end of the
day, playing the slots is fun and one certainly expects to lose some
money… but you always want to stay solvent, so you can keep coming
back for more action.
