Disagreement Leaves
$1,000,000 At Stake
Most slot machine players would be happy to break
even when they leave the casino of their choice on any given day,
let alone to actually win anything. Unless they are extreme
high-rollers throwing away a few hundred bucks a spin, we’re willing
to bet that most punters would be EXTREMELY happy with a haul of
eight thousand bucks – but not Ms. Florida Eash, a resident of
Biloxi, Mississippi. Eash appeared before the state Supreme Court
last week, claming that the management of the IP Casino is trying to
defraud her of the million dollar slot win that she justly deserved.
Court documents reveal that Eash was playing the $5 Double Top
Dollar slot machine on February 19, 2006 when she won a jackpot. The
machine registered and displayed a one million dollar jackpot, and
sent a signal to the establishment’s accounting system saying that a
million dollar payout was expected. At this point, the stories of Eash and the casino diverge. Eash says that she is owed the million
dollars; attorneys for the casino counter that the million dollar
message was a programming error and that the slot game in question
doesn’t even feature a million dollar prize on its paytable.
The first round of the battle between Eash and IP Casino was before
the state Gaming Commission, which ruled in favor of Eash and said
that the casino’s “sloppiness” had contributed to the error. When
the casino appealed, a judge overturned the decision and agreed that
Eash knew a million dollar win was not possible on that machine.
Now, Eash has pushed the matter before the highest court in the
land, hoping to be awarded the million dollars she feels she
deserves for her slot machine win.
