Microgaming Pull-out
was Biggest Disappointment of 2008
In terms of what made headlines in the world of
online slots and casino gambling, Microgaming’s unprecedented
pull-out from the U.S. market was the news that sent the biggest
shockwaves through the industry. In the chill of November, the
biggest online gambling software provider in the world issued a
release saying that it would be blocking American IP addresses from
accessing its casinos, due to increased paranoia about enforcement
of the infamous Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, or UIGEA.
Without a doubt, Microgaming is THE name in casino technology today.
That Microgaming has the biggest array of new, exciting, and
lucrative online slots; the very best casino licensees; and the best
reputation in the industry is so widely considered as to be
practically accepted as fact by now. Some players in the United
States have made the decision to actually give up their love of
online slot machine play rather than to try and find a substitute
for their love of Microgaming software and gambling sites.
Online casino review hub CasinoMeister named the Microgaming
Pull-Out as the Biggest Disappointment of 2008 in its annual Casino
Awards, which were announced at the end of last month. CasinoMeister
wasn’t saying anything that players across America didn’t already
know. The loss of Microgaming is a huge blow for a national gambling
industry already devastated by the ravages of the UIGEA, and may
just be a sign of terrible things to come. From day to day, more and
more sites are shutting their doors to American players, and there’s
no end in sight.
