Will Online Slots
Come to Japan?
Ah, the land of the rising sun. Japan is home to
every technology company under the sun, and a vast empire of
schoolgirl fetish porn, but –to date- no online slot machines.
Actually, make that no online gambling of any kind. Like the United
States, Japan currently has laws in place prohibiting citizens from
gambling with money on the World Wide Web. Unlike the United States,
the political pendulum in Japan is actually swinging back towards
legalizing the industry, instead of making restrictions even more
draconian.
Horse racing and lotteries are currently permitted (and very
popular) in Japan. Lately, there has been much talk from lawmakers
suggesting that legalized online gambling may be a very strong
option for helping to alleviate some deficits in the national
budget. Obviously, the taxation that would come along with legalized
internet slot machines, poker, blackjack, et cetera is a very
attractive prospect. That’s not to mention the nationally-generated
revenues that would roll in as a result of regulation. Most other
first-world nations have beneficial laws in place with regards to
the industry, and Japan is considering modeling some of them. As one
of the nations with the highest gross domestic products in the
world, Japan could only further its standing with
carefully-considered online gambling.
The earliest that online gambling could be made legal in Japan would
be 2010, but experts are really urging the country’s ruling party to
think long and hard about exactly how they would prefer to implement
such a big policy change. The virtue of honor is a HUGE deal in
Japan, and must be considered above everything else.
