UIGEA Among Worst Bans Ever
A Hawaiian
newspaper has named the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act
as among the dumbest bans ever enacted by factions of the U.S.
government. The UIGEA is the law that prohibited gambling
transactions between American citizens and casino companies. The
UIGEA has garnered no end of criticism from factions critical of the
restrictions on person liberties and financial freedoms implicit in
the legislation. The Hawaiian Reporter may not be as potent a critic
as the World Trade Organization, but its lambasting of the UIGEA is
one that can certainly be construed as timely and appropriate.
The Hawaiian Reporter listed bans on sex toys, bottled water, and
cancer drugs in individual U.S. states as some of the biggest
legislative boners ever committed. The UIGEA was the only
national-level legislation mentioned in the opinion piece, which ran
recently. The Bush-era legislation is one that ought to be scrapped,
the piece stated- a sentiment that many others undoubtedly concur
with. The principle behind the Reporter’s derision of the ban is not
only the frivolity of the law on paper, but the threat to civil
liberties that is implies by the Big Brother-esque legislation. This
is not to mention that the U.S. is really shooting itself in the
foot with regards to untold economic opportunities by taxing
legalized gambling transactions.
Here at SlotsData.com, we obviously feel that the UIGEA needs to be
repealed as soon as possible for any number of reasons. We are
thrilled to see that people are really starting to take notice of
the ridiculousness of the ban, and speaking out against it and in
favor of abolishing it.
