Rachael Romanick experienced something akin to an Easter Miracle two weeks ago. Instead of a chocolate bunny or some colored eggs in her basket, Romanick stumbled upon thirty-three million dollars! The mother of four children, aged thirty-eight, was encouraged to go out to the casino by one of her friends who was in the mood for a little gambling action. Romanick decided to go along, and sidled by to the seat of an IGT Megabucks slot terminal at Terrible’s Rail City Casino in Sparks. According to a news report, Romanick had been idly spinning the reels at three bucks a turn for no more than ten minutes when the progressive jackpot symbols lined up and, in a heartbeat, Romanick became thirty-three million dollars richer! The jackpot is the largest in northern Nevada’s history, and is the runner-up to the world record – a prize that less than a million dollars higher than Romanick’s, won by a Las Vegas punter at the Excalibur in March 2003.

Romanick was understandably still at a loss for words when she was interviewed, but she commented that her win was living proof of the old adage that you have to play to win big! We hope she gives a tidy tip to the friend who encouraged her to go and play the slots in the first place!
