Slot Terms You Need
to Know: Volume 19
Countdown: This is a term that is pertinent to
loyal patrons of a casino (online or land-based) that offers a
members’ club. Because the world of casino slot games is
ridiculously competitive, gambling establishments have begun to vie
for players’ time and money by giving rewards to those folks who
frequent them often. Player’s cards are the tool through which slots
fans access these rewards, which can include cash rebates, show
tickets hotel stays, and drinks or food from casino restaurants.
When a player with a loyalty card plays the slots at his/her casino
of choice, they insert their club card into the machine. The
“countdown” tells the player in question how close they are to
earning another club point. The amount of points earned is
conveniently displayed on the display of an electronic card reader,
so that players can keep track of how many points they have when
they play. Online slots fans will normally find all this information
somewhere on the screen, after entering their account information.
Slots: Shorthand for “slot machines.” See also: FRUIT MACHINE and
POKEY (POKIE)
Slots Drop: This is a nickname for how much money you have played in
a slot machine as a cumulative amount. COIN SIZE indicates how many
coins you have inserted, in terms of a number. If you are playing a
penny slot and you have inserted five pennies, the coin size is
five. The “slots drop” is five cents.
Credit Meter: This handy-dandy indicator tells you how many coins or
credits you have left. Look for this icon on either casino-based or
online slot machines.
