Fruit Machine: If you happen to find yourself taking a trip abroad, this is a good term to know. Brits refer to slot machines as “fruit machines.” Undoubtedly, this dates back to the earliest slot games, which featured pictures of fruit on the reels. Did you know that the first “fruit machine” was designed by a chewing gum manufacturer? These slots dispensed fruit-flavored gum as the prize for lining up the appropriate symbols – cherry-flavored for cherry, grape for grape, and so on.
