Is There Any Truth
to The Machine Placement Myth? (1 of 2)
Slot machine players are a superstitious bunch
altogether. If you get together any number of slot game enthusiasts,
regardless of age or any other factors, you will learn that they
share any number of peculiar beliefs about the gambling industry and
their pet devices, the slots. Many of these beliefs have to do with
luck. Ask a veteran slot player, and they will share many different
beliefs about how to best win the slots. It could be a certain time
of day that they swear is essential to success, or they may believe
that cold coins are the only way to have a shot at winning. Another
commonly-held superstition has to do with the physical placement of
slot machines in a casino.
It’s an old superstition among slot fans that the “loosest” devices
are those located near the front door of the casino. “Loose” slot
games, of course, are those that are rigged to offer the biggest
payouts. Some of the most veteran slots players out there believe
this myth.
It’s false, no two ways about it. First of all, the belief that some
slot games are “warmer” than others is ludicrous. All the slot
devices in a casino have to be set to the exact same payout
percentage. Unless a machine is malfunctioning (unlikely), any
“trends” you may perceive are simply random. Casinos get in big
trouble with the gambling authorities of their city, state, and/or
nation if they tamper with the devices, so it simply is not worth it
for them to do so.
