Could KY Soon Get
Slots?
Kentucky has lagged behind much of the United
States in terms of the world of slot machines. Currently, slot games
are not legal in the state – but an enterprising lawmaker is looking
to change that. Representative Tom Burch recently told the General
Assembly that legalizing the popular gambling devices could be a
slick way to beef up the state’s coffers. Burch told local papers
that he is ready to bring his state “into the gambling age.”
Certainly, with online casinos and especially online slots getting
ever-more popular by the day, it’s time for Kentucky to join the
trend!
The state Legislature has been dithering over the topic of slot
machines for the better part of twelve years. Unwilling to let
another decade of shilly-shallying go by, Burch officially proposed
that Kentucky legally allow eighteen thousand slot machines to enter
the state, as a way of bringing new revenue into the state budget.
Many states in America have long been using slot proceeds as a way
of bringing money into their respective wallets, and Burch is hoping
to sell his fellow Bluegrass State lawmakers on the very attractive
prospect.
Under Burch’s slot machine proposal, assuming that it were passed by
the Legislature in its current state, six thousand of the eighteen
thousand slot games in question would to the eight licensed
racetracks in Kentucky. Individual counties could then decide on an
individual basis whether they wanted to allow slot machine gambling,
and the remaining two-thirds of the machines could be divvied up
accordingly.
