Indonesian Youth
Flout Gambling Prohibition
The slot machine games offered by online casinos
on the World Wide Web are skyrocketing in popularity with the young
generation of Indonesians. There’s very little that youthful
Indonesian citizen love more than playing their luck at the online
slots. That’s why it may surprise you to know that internet gambling
is a big “no-no” in this country. Many of the nation’s enthusiastic,
young gamblers don’t know that there is ban on online betting… and
those that do, don’t care.
Computer literacy is a new-ish thing in Indonesia, which has long
lagged behind highly industrialized nations like the U.S. in terms
of technology. As is also the case in America, true mastership of
surfing the web and experiencing its many diversions has quickly
become the domain of the young. Young Indonesians love their online
slots and other casino games, despite the fact that they risk a
half-year of imprisonment and thousand of dollars in fines if they
are caught taking part in illegal gambling. There are only two
places in the country, both located in Singapore, that permit
gambling – and neither has a web site.
Enterprising Indonesian slot fans are skirting national bans on
credit cards used for gambling purposes in the same ways as their
U.S. counterparts. Business in third-party money handling is
booming, as many Indonesians turn to these outside services (like
Neteller) to finance their fun. The Indonesian government has issued
warnings that online gambling is a sure way to lose one’s money, but
it seems that precious few members of their target audience are
paying heed!
