Is There Any Such Thing as a Slots “Expert?”

Can someone possibly get to be “good” at playing slot machines – good enough to be considered a professional? Commonly-held logic says “no;” slot games are simply games of chance. Yet, in the world of online casino gambling, there are always whispers of those fabled individuals who are making real money playing the online slot machines. We know that there are professional poker players… can the world of online slots possibly boast such masters of the craft, so to speak.

A British gambling experts believes that there may be some validity to the claim. In the United Kingdom, unlike in the United States, many slot machines are not located in big land-based casinos, says Professor Mark Griffiths of Nottingham Trent University. Instead, they are located in the back rooms of pubs and stores. These locations may rely on the weekly income that these slots games bring in, so they program their machines to pay out every few days. U.S. slots may only turn over every three or four weeks. British slot machine “pros” may simply sit around in a club and watch people drop money into the machines for hours… banking on the fact that certain machines will eventually be “ripe” to hit a jackpot.

Of course, there are many “tricks” for winning the slots that have been proven to be total bunk. Holding a cell phone up to the face of a slot machine will not “confuse” the mechanisms into handing you a jackpot, despite what you may have heard from your friends or on the internet. And Griffiths maintains that there is no truth to the rumor that a slot machine makes a different sound when it is at capacity and “ready” to dump a jackpot.
