Slots Are
Self-Contained Games
Slots make gambling pretty tidy, in comparison to
other casino standbys. Poker tables require casinos to lay out
cards, chips, and tables. Roulette and craps require spinning
devices and even more gambling chips. In comparison, slot machines
are pretty self-contained. You basically just need a finger to push
a button, or an arm to pull a lever (on old-fashioned machines). Add
in a cup to collect your winnings – hopefully! – and you are pretty
much set-up for hours of slot game play.
Slot machines themselves can get pretty fancy. Modern-day slot games
tend to come equipped with any number of bells and whistles designed
to make play more exciting and fun. They may sport LCD screens for
video slot machine play that display the reels and turn into de
facto video games when it comes to bonus rounds. These machines
light up, play all sorts of crazy music and noises, and are
basically akin to a club in a box! The idea is to provide an
ultra-stimulating experience to the slots player, who will hopefully
spend more money on the device.
Yet, many players appreciate the classic slot machines of their
parents’ or grandparents’ time. These slot machines – often tricked
out with old-fashioned levers and ball finials – have become
antiques. You can find old slot games at flea markets, rummage
sales, and sites like eBay. Private ownership of slot machines is
normally prohibited by law unless the machine in question is a
vintage model, and is not owned for commercial purposes. That fits
the bill for many collectors, who keep these machines around for
pride, not money-making!
