Underage Slot Player
Causes Casino Fine
An underage slot machine player at the Hollywood
Casino in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, has led to the gambling
establishment being disciplined and fined by the state Gaming
Control Board. The Mountainview Thoroughbred Racing Association, the
casino’s parent company, has been assessed a five thousand dollar
fine dating back to an incident in mid-July. A twenty year old
player entered the Hollywood Casino and spent twenty-five minutes
playing slot games on the casino floor.
At the time of the incident, patrons eighteen years or older were
allowed to be on the gaming floor, but had to be at least twenty-one
to play slot machines. As a result of the disciplinary action, the
casino, which adjoins the Penn National Race Court, has changed its
policy to disallow anyone under twenty-one from being on the floor
at all. Clearly, the Hollywood Casino’s competitors also got the
memo, because all seven casinos doing business in Pennsylvania now
have the same policy in place.
The Board was hard at work crafting new policies when it addressed
the issue that took place in Harrisburg. During its latest session,
it also revoked two gaming employee permits and allocated over one
hundred twenty thousand dollars to the Police Departments of both
Hellertown (Northampton County) and the Borough of Homestead
(Allegheny County) to fund initiatives aimed at cracking down on
illicit slot machines. These latest two grants join the twenty-seven
others that have already been approved and distributed to law
enforcement agencies throughout the state, totaling over three
million two hundred forty-seven thousand dollars. Municipal agencies
can apply for the grants in amounts up to two hundred fifty thousand
dollars to fund programs aimed at finding and eliminating illegal
slot game operations.
