Obama Would Be Best
for Online Gambling
The upcoming presidential election in the United
States stands to have a major impact on the world of online slot
machine and casino gambling. Obviously, those observers of the
industry are fervently hoping that the changing of the Executive
Branch guard will bring about legislative changes vis a vis the
internet gambling business – specifically, a major revision if not
repeal of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, or UIGEA.
One such expert, an attorney from Las Vegas who specializes in legal
knowledge of online gambling, believes that an Obama presidency
would be the strongest hope for such change.
Anthony Cabot believes that Democratic nominee is much friendlier
towards the world of online slot machines and casino gambling than
his opponent. In fact, Cabot opined that the UIGEA is likely to
“never” be repealed if John McCain were to gain office. Barack Obama
has gained the support of the entire gambling sphere on the World
Wide Web – the fact that he used to be a poker player of (allegedly)
no small talent might not hurt!
The UIGEA, of course, is the controversial piece of legislation that
was intended to stop illicit online gambling by making it a criminal
offense for banks and other financial institutions to transfer funs
that would be used as bets in internet gambling transactions. The
law is full of vagaries and uncertainties that have not been
clarified by the Bush administration, even after years of cajoling
by the industry. The law has essentially put an end to American
players being welcomed by major online casinos, as many have been
prosecuted under the Act.
