Microgaming Protects
Itself
With Kentucky’s state courts having given their
approval to the state’s ridiculous attempt to impose protectionist
legislation against the online slot machine and casino gambling
industry, internet gambling sites are now on their guard against any
attempts to seize their domains. It’s patently atrocious that anyone
could possibly construe online site domains as “gambling devices,”
but that’s exactly what the (obviously anti-gaming) courts have
done. It’s estimated that there are one hundred forty-one sites on
the World Wide Web at which Kentuckian citizens have been allowed to
illegally gamble in the wake of the UIGEA. With Kentucky’s
horseracing industry long-regarded as one of the most
historically-significant in the country, it’s no wonder that they
want to put a block on the thriving world of online slots, poker,
and sports betting – all of which threatens to horn in on their
profits!
Casino software giant Microgaming is doing their best to make sure
that the crackdown won’t affect them. They have placed IP blocking
technology on their online slot machine and casino gambling sites,
and placed blocks against IP addresses from any of the thirteen
American states that have explicit bans against online play.
Kentucky is only one of these, but there can be no doubts that it
was the reason that Microgaming employed the block!
IP blocking has been used with varying degrees of success by other
nations trying to limit or ban online gambling. Hackers have found
several ways around these safeguards, but the measure do show an
effort on the part of casino sites to do their part to cut back on
illegal activities.
