Mansion to Stay in
Gibraltar
The popular Mansion online slot machine and casino
gambling group will stay in Gibraltar, despite rumors otherwise. The
Mansion group has had its headquarters in Gibraltar for years, and
reports that it was considering packing up and moving operations
elsewhere have been sending shockwaves through the casino gambling
community for weeks now. The nations of Israel and Singapore have
been specifically and repeatedly mentioned as the potential new
sites for the group. A major Gibraltar newspaper, “Panorama,” put
the rumors to rest definitively this week. With the exception of
some staff cutbacks as a result of the troubled economy, Mansion
isn’t going anywhere.
Naturally, Gibraltar is happy that it will not be losing one of its
biggest employers. Mansion employs one hundred fifty residents,
which is no small number in a country of only twenty-eight thousand.
Industry competitors 888 and PartyGaming are also situated in
Gibraltar, and have had to make layoffs this year. It’s not exactly
bad news for the online slot machine manufacturer, either. Gibraltar
has occupied a much-coveted spot on the UK Gambling Commission's
whitelist for approved licensing jurisdictions for some time now,
and is widely considered to have one of the most regulated and
respected sets of legislation pertaining to the industry of any
country in the world.
Neither of these rumored new homes for Mansion made much sense,
anyhow, Although Singapore’s tax structure is more friendly towards
casino operators, Gibraltar is still considered a better location.
And Israel’s policies are not nearly as friendly towards the
gambling industry.
