Duplicate Poker
Closes Down
The American online slot machine and casino
gambling world was rocked by the closing of one of its biggest poker
site providers. Staying in business in the United States has been no
easy feat for the companies that once did business with Yankees. The
Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, passed and still
un-clarified by the Bush Administration, has pretty much made it
illegal for any gambling companies to enter into financial
transactions with U.S. citizens. The resulting legal situation has
led to a true sink or swim dilemma for online slots and gambling
sites: stay open and risk getting sued, move business elsewhere, or
shut down completely?
It seems that the last option was the only one available to
Duplicate Poker. The poker site, once a mammoth success, has shut
its virtual doors this past week. The company was once a taker of
risks. It defiantly kept accepting a full range of payments from its
American players, and even managed to maintain players from states
that outlawed online poker, such as Washington. Looks like
Duplicate’s maverick days are all behind it, however.
Many people involved in the United States’ online slot and casino
gambling industry are looking optimistically towards November 4th,
the date of the presidential election. It is widely believed that
Democratic candidate Barack Obama would be much more lenient towards
and accepting of the gambling business than his predecessor, should
he be elected. It’s too late for Duplicate and the large number of
other casino sites that have already gone under as a result of the
controversial UIGEA, but an Obama presidency may come in time to
save others from a similar fate.
