Online Gambling
Could Get a Boost
In the long run, online slot machine and casino
gambling sites may come out on top. By now, the effects of the
recessing American economy are starting to be felt on a worldwide
level. The gambling industry has been one of the most-visibly
affected industries so far, and for good reason. All sectors of the
entertainment industry have been hurt by consumers’ lack of
discretionary income to spend on a good time. People are losing
their houses, gas prices are skyrocketing, and the credit crisis is
burgeoning by the week. Sparing some change to take a crack at one’s
favorite casino pastime is just not a priority, and isn’t even a
possibility for some of the most unfortunate individuals and
families.
Yet, the world of online slot machines and casino gambling pastimes
may get through a bit more gracefully than their land-based
counterparts, for several reasons. First of all, many internet
gambling sites are not based in the United States and no longer
accept American players, as a result of the notorious Unlawful
Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. Not dealing with Americans has
been a boon, because these online casino sites are not feeling as
much of a hit.
Also, gamblers may be turning to online slot machine and casino
sites instead of their normal land casino activities, because they
do not need to spend any money on gas or other travel expenses to
play there. Las Vegas, one of the world’s major gambling
destinations, has seen dramatic losses this year as a result of
consumers no longer being willing to expend the funds to travel
there. Online casinos doesn’t require travel, so players who still
have the means and desire to gamble may use these as alternatives.
