Microgaming Bars US
Players!
Call it the shocker heard ‘round the worldwide
gambling industry. On Friday, universally renowned casino software
provider Microgaming announced that it had implemented technology to
bar all American players from making deposits with all online slot
machine and casino gambling sites run by their proprietary software.
This newest blow against the United States’ gamblers is proof that
the Unlawful Internet Gambling Act really does have teeth… a full
set that are ready to bite at any that dare cross the U.S.
government.
Experts almost unanimously believe that the drastic decision by the
software company to bar new sign-ups by American players was at
least partially influenced by the online slot game and casino
gambling brouhaha that’s been brewing in the state of Kentucky.
Microgaming has, to date, declined to name a specific cause for
their move. The company designs and creates some of the best
gambling titles on the web, and is specifically known for the
excellence of their online slots titles.
At the moment, American players who already have accounts with
Microgaming casinos may still play. The ban applies to new sign-ups
only. It is unknown whether Microgaming has any plans to expand the
prohibition to existing players’ accounts in the future. It is
really getting to the point where it is difficult for players in the
United States to find casino sites to take their money. Although
enforcement of the UIGEA has been spotty, many casinos have already
decided that it is not worth trying to cross the American legal
system.
