Slot Review:
Gemstone
Sometimes, even the most jaded online slots fans
yearn for something a bit simpler. Nowadays, the virtual punters
offered on the World Wide Web are marvels of video technology. They
come fully-loaded with wilds, scatters, free spins, and animated
bonus games worthy of a next-generation video game console. Back in
the proverbial “day,” slot machines were all pretty much the same –
three reels, one payline. The decorations might have changed a bit,
but the idea was the same
Gemstone, an online slot game by Playtech, hearkens back to that
less-complicated time. This title is, unsurprisingly, related to
gemstones. Rubies, emeralds, and sapphires stud the five reels of
this pokey, along with golden bells and bejeweled crowns. Although
this slot machine game is already a bit different from its low-tech
predecessors in that it has five reels and as many paylines, its
simplicity shines through. Only those five symbols appear in the
game, which looks like an old-fashioned console in a casino.
Gemstone allows you to bet up to four coins at once, with coin size
ranging from one cent to five dollars. That means that you can wager
up to twenty dollars a spin. The jackpot is a none-too-shabby two
thousand coins, or ten thousand dollars. If you have maxed out your
bet, however, getting five crowns in a row will pay out an amount of
money that is TWO THOUSAND TIMES your wager! We prefer our slot
games a bit more polished, but we could understand why someone would
want to give this game a shot. It does have a certain retro appeal.
