American Players
Feeling the Burn
Up until just recently, it’s safe to say that most
American online slots and casino gambling fans were existing in a
state of insulated bliss against the havoc of the Unlawful Internet
Gambling Enforcement Act. Because of the media blitz surrounding the
controversial legislation, it’s safe to say that most gamblers not
living under the proverbial rock had at least heard of the UIGEA.
Despite that, however, most U.S. punters with any degree of
ingenuity have encountered few problems tracking down high-quality
play on the World Wide Web, due to the fact that many notable
casinos and gambling destinations simple chose to ignore the law.
But the times are a’changing, as the song goes. Increased refinement
and revision of the UIGEA has made it much more clear what renegade
gambling sites are up against, and the U.S. justice department has
shown that it is not to be messed with. What does this mean, in real
life? More and more online slot machine and casino gambling sites
are closing their virtual doors to American players, if not
completely. Those casinos that once flouted the UIGEA are now much
more fearful, and some have even begun taking proactive steps to
ensure that Americans do not play on their sites.
The major software firm Microgaming struck a considerable blow
against Americans’ playing comfort when they announced that their
casinos would no longer accept Yankee gamblers. That decision was
thanks to the ridiculous situation in the state of Kentucky, where
the government is trying to seize several domains as “illegal
gambling devices.” Players are starting to feel the burn, and we
think that, if nothing changes, it won’t be long before American
players have no place to go if they want to gamble.
