Slot Review: So 80’s
What do break dancing, big hair,
neon legwarmers, and Madonna all have in common? This is an easy one
– they are all products of the 1980s. One of the brashest, crassest
decades in the annals of American history has been immortalized in
an equally ugly online slot game by Rival. The Fifties had New Age
grace and delightful Atomic Age kitsch. The Sixties had love beads
and the British Invasions. The Seventies had bell bottoms and peace
protests. The Eighties had… well, Ronald Reagan and boom boxes.
Those who survived… err, lived through this decade may get a kick
out of the nostalgia, but we didn’t love this slot title.
So 80’s is a five-reel,
fifteen-payline online slot game. Coin sizes go as low as a penny,
and as high as a quarter. Max coins is set at seventy-five. The
jackpot is a measly five thousand coin prize, or twelve hundred
fifty dollars when the wager is maxed out.
The paylines are demarcated by
colored cassette tapes alongside the reels, which are set on a
checkered background. Rock ‘n roll hairstyles fill the reels, along
with fashion items and the smiley-face jackpot symbol. The letters
and numbers filling out the reels look digital. The music used in
this game is appropriate to the era, and contributes to the retro
“feel” of the game. There are wild and scatter symbols, as well as
the opportunity to win fifteen free spins. There is also a free
practice mode, just in case you don’t want to risk your bankroll
just to try this one out.
